In the U.S. alone, there are roughly 124.6 million homes that need protecting. Naturally, because of the size of the market, there are many different needs to fill. Luckily, there are options out there for everyone at every price point. But with so many choices on the market today, it’s important to understand the key differentiators amongst security products.

Not all WI-FI cameras are created equal:

Passive prevention

Passive prevention simply monitors what’s going on, i.e. a security camera.

Active Prevention

Active prevention, on the other hand, lets you hear and talk to people via an intercom or even sound a siren to deter unwanted visitors. At Kuna, we’re focused on the latter.

Front Door VS Complete Home Protection

The Ring video doorbell, with a battery that you have to recharge (or wired to your doorbell), is an outdoor device for the front entry of your home. Ring is a great solution for some, but most people need to secure more than just their front door and would prefer a better vantage point to keep an eye on their entire home so they can react when people are approaching, instead of when they’re already at the door. Alternatively, the Smart Security Light & Toucan are excellent choices for protecting the entire perimeter of your home, and multiple Kuna Smart Security Systems can be used to help monitor and protect several properties — even in other states.

The SkyBell HD Wi-Fi Video Doorbell, August Doorbell Cam, Ring Video Doorbell, Ring Video Doorbell Pro and Bird Home Automation DoorBird Video Doorbell, for instance, are all doorbell cameras. That means you’ll have to replace your existing buzzer to set up one of these camera-equipped Wi-Fi versions. – CNET

Power Cord or Batteries VS Continuous Power

Nest’s minimalist $200 outdoor home security camera, powered by a 25 ft long cable, is a welcome newcomer to the smart outdoor home security category. Nest’s new outdoor product relies on advanced software features — borrowed from Google for the first time — to try to distinguish itself in the market and to help reduce some of the false positive issues that plauged previous Nest camera products. But perhaps the most obvious drawback of the Nest Outdoor Camera is that it does not offer a totally comprehensive security solution, seeing as how it is not tied to an alarm system. The Smart Security Light or Toucan, on the other hand, has a built-in 100+ dba siren (louder than a motorcycle).

While these cameras do share a lot of similarities, they have one major distinction – their power source – and it’s really up to you whether you want to deal with a power cord or batteries. The Outdoor Cam’s 25-foot power cord is long enough to give you quite a bit of leeway if your outdoor outlets aren’t near your ideal installation spot. Still, you have to find a way to minimize the look of a long white cable hanging outside your house – CNET.

Obvious Cameras VS Discreet Security Solutions

Similar to Nest, NetGear’s Arlo is mounted to the exterior of a home with a protruding magnetic base that provides a great deal of flexibility as a monitoring camera. However, it falls short as a true security solution due to the lack of preventative features, like two-way audio, a siren and deterrent messages. And like the Nest outdoor camera, Arlo’s camera is cleary visible, making it easily prone to theft. Most people are in the market for a discreet option that seamlessly becomes a part of their home, rather than obvious cameras that ruin your home’s aesthetic and have wires running all over the exterior.

Both Nest Cam Outdoor and Arlo look nice, but they have white finishes that aren’t especially discreet. They also attach to their bases via magnets, making them simple to steal. – CNET.

Kuna vs Competition Smart Security Light
The best outdoor home security system (Smart Wi-Fi Enabled).

Kuna smart outdoor home security is forever changing the face of home security for the better and is focused on developing affordable security solutions that focus on prevention – not just detection.

For example, Kuna sends actionable activity alerts and lets you easily turn your lights on and off, sound a siren, check on your home in brilliant HD, and download past activity from the cloud.

In the future, all security services will proactively alert homeowners of suspicious activity, so that they can decide on the best course of action before something happens on the inside, just like Kuna does today.

Learn More About Kuna

The future of outdoor home security. Prevention, not just detection.

The Internet of Things is forever changing the face of home security for the better. Gone are the days when you have to spend a lot of money to protect your home. As new products emerge and technology continues to improve, we’ll see a massive drop in the number of home break-ins as well as a reduction in the number of false alarms.

And as the industry continues to develop better outdoor surveillance technology, these services will no longer be locked in with big companies (like ADT), but will now be an option for the common house owner as well. A whole new era of technology-driven smart WI-FI surveillance cameras with robust feature sets are taking over. This rise also helps make the technology more affordable.
