DIY Easy Installation

The Kuna Powered Smart Security and Companion Lights are as simple to install as any other light fixture. Just take down your old fixture and mount the device to your existing junction box. While installing a Kuna Powered device is super easy to do yourself, we’re always here to answer any questions and walk you through the process.

1. Remove Existing Light

Turn off power at breaker and remove the existing light from your home.

2. Adjust Mounting Bracket

Attach the mounting bracket (included with purchase) to your wall using simple screws and nails. Adjust the length of the nails using the length indicator.

3. Connect Three Wires

Color match exactly three wires: black to black, white to white, and ground to ground (usually copper in color). Tie the ground wire, then twist a cap (wire nut) to connect the black/wires wires.

4. Hook Device to Wall

Hang your device onto the mounting bracket. Turn on power at breaker.

5. Pair with Kuna App

Download the Kuna mobile app to your phone, and pair your device. Setup only takes a minute!

Is My Wi-Fi Strong Enough for Kuna Powered Devices?

Your Wi-Fi network should have 2 Mbps upload and download speeds where the Kuna Powered device is installed. This helps your device maintain excellent picture quality in your live feed and your recordings.

You can learn your upload speed by holding your phone next to your installation spot and running a speed test at speedtest.net on your mobile browser. You can also download their app for iPhone or Android.

What If My Power Or Wi-Fi Disconnects?

Kuna Powered devices continuously draws from your wall power so that we can provide high-quality video and detection. If your power or Wi-Fi goes out, Kuna’s cloud servers will detect that the device is no longer connected and send you an alert on your phone. All of your existing recordings and settings will be saved.

Once your power or Wi-Fi is restored, the device will reconnect automatically and start working again.

Can I Use LED Bulbs With Kuna Powered Devices?

Yes you can! We recommend that you use an LED bulb, but you can use a standard compact fluorescent or incandescent bulb too. Smart Security Lights can safely support any light bulb up to 100W, whereas the Toucan Surveillance Kit supports up to 40W.

We recommend a bulb with a maximum of 800 lumens or less to minimize glare. Our tests show the best results from a standard A-15 LED or CFL light bulb, 450 lumens.

What If I Have Two Or More Lights On The Same Switch?

If you wish, you can replace both of your fixtures with a full Smart Security Light and simply point the cameras in different directions. We’ve had some Kuna users install two Smart Security Lights in the same place, directing one camera toward the door and one toward the street.

If you don’t need extra Smart Security Lights, but still want matching light fixtures, our Companion Lights are a great solution. These are designed to sync with a full Smart Security Light, but they don’t have a camera or intercom.

How Many Kuna Powered Devices Can I Install At My Home?

There is no limit to the number of Kuna Powered devices that you can install! We recommend installing Kuna Powered security devices at all major entry points to your home, so you’re never caught off guard when someone comes to your door.

You can add multiple cameras to the Kuna app and your recordings will show footage from each of these cameras. Some of our users have 8 or more lights installed at their homes!
